A volunteer organization devoted to the welfare of stray and homeless dogs in the Austin area, Blue Dog Rescue offers hope for hundreds of dogs every year that otherwise would face euthanization. Often abused dogs are afraid of everyone but sometimes only men, usually because it has been at the hand of a man that they have suffered. Rescuing these dogs require other animal lovers telling them where they see abuse being done to an animal. Volunteer at a dog rescue or animal shelter and help the organization find unwanted dogs and puppies a new home.

Assistance dogs are not common house pets. 20 – 30 dogs staying at the shelter for medical treatment. Resources such as animal rescue directories listing state by state animal rescues will be covered as well as how your own yard sale can benefit your local animal rescue.

Local donations and a small amount of tax money support the shelter so their priority is to take in severely abused local dogs too. Animal shelters are designed to temporarily house lost, homeless, or abandoned animals. Some people dump litters of puppies and they’re found and brought to shelters.

A lot of people decide they cannot cope with their pet dog whether because of a change in housing, a new baby, because of a relationship break up, or because the owner suffers ill health, goes into hospital or dies. You can Google animal rescues and go to their websites to read about them.

Blue Dog Rescue offers a variety of adoption opportunities throughout the year at local pet supply stores and other community events. If your dog is not old enough at the time he is re-homed, come with a voucher for neutering later on. Dogs that are rehomed are often potty trained, identify and respond to commands, and require less attention than a new puppy.
